Scroll damage is generally caused by liquid hammer. There are three main situations: first, a large amount of refrigerant liquid enters the compressor at the moment of startup; Second, the water flow of evaporator is insufficient (evaporation load decreases), and the compressor has liquid return phenomenon; Third, the defrosting of the unit heat pump is not good, and a large amount of liquid refrigerant enters the compressor without evaporation, or the liquid in the evaporator (condenser during heat pump operation) at the moment of four-way valve reversing enters the compressor.

To solve the problem of liquid hammer or liquid return, mainly consider the following aspects.

In terms of pipeline design, it is necessary to avoid liquid refrigerant entering the compressor during startup, which may require excessive liquid return test for the system, especially for the refrigeration system with large filling capacity. Adding a gas-liquid separator at the suction port of the compressor is an effective way to solve this problem, especially in the heat pump unit with reverse circulation hot gas defrosting.

Before startup, preheating the compressor oil pool for a long time can effectively prevent a large amount of refrigerant from accumulating in the compressor lubricating oil. It also plays a certain role in preventing liquid hammer.
