Electronic expansion valves (EEVs) are devices used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems to control the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. An EEV is a type of metering device that uses an electronic controller to adjust the valve opening based on system requirements.

An EEV consists of a valve body, a powerhead assembly, and an electronic controller. The valve body contains a movable piston that adjusts the size of the opening through which refrigerant flows. The powerhead assembly contains a stepper motor that moves the piston, and the electronic controller monitors system conditions and adjusts the motor to maintain the desired evaporator pressure.

The electronic controller receives input from temperature and pressure sensors in the system, as well as from the system control board. The controller then uses this information to determine the required valve opening, and sends a signal to the powerhead to adjust the piston position accordingly.
