The piston compressor does not have enough air for the following reasons

Nov 17, 2022

1, Leaking of the suction and exhaust valves

(1) The amount of air is affected by metal particles between the valve seat and valve piece that are the result of inadequate air leakage closure.

(2) When a fresh suction valve spring is first utilized, its rigidity is excessively high, which slows down the valve's opening. Over time, this causes the spring to get fatigued, which prevents the valve from opening in time and causes air leakage.

(3) The amount of air pumped is affected by uneven wear of the valve plate and seat, which causes poor sealing and air leakage.

(4) When the suction valve is not raised high enough, the resistance and flow speed both rise, which affects the pumping volume.

Eliminating techniques:

(1) Take apart and clean; if the suction valve's valve cover is warm, the suction valve is at fault; if not, the exhaust on the valve is.

(2) Verify the spring's rigidity or swap it out for an appropriate spring.

(3) Replace the valve plate and seat or grind it down and repair it.

(4) Change the proper lift limiting ring and the lift height.

2, Packing air leakage

(1) Packing or piston rod wear causes leakage.

(2) Insufficient supply of lubricating oil, reducing the air tightness, causing leakage.

Elimination methods:

(1) Repair or replace the seal or piston rod.

(2) Disassemble and check the suction and discharge valve, and find that the valve is short of oil, the amount of lubricant should be increased.

3, The piston ring and the cylinder have a problem

(1) When cylinder wear, particularly single-sided wear, exceeds the maximum permissible limit, the gap widens and leakage results. (1) When cylinder wear—particularly one-sided wear—exceeds the maximum allowed limit, the gap widens, allowing air to leak out and reduce air volume.

(2) The piston ring will develop the bite-dead phenomenon due to poor lubricant quality, insufficient oil supply, and excessive cylinder temperature. The pressure will also change as a result, in addition to the air volume.

(3) A large clearance and air leakage are caused by piston ring deterioration.

Eliminating techniques:

(1) Using boring or grinding techniques, or completely replacing the cylinder liner.

(2) Take the piston out, clean the groove or ring on the piston, change the lubrication, and enhance the overall condition.

(3) Change the piston ring.

4. Reduce the inflow volume because the cylinder clearance volume is too large

Elimination techniques:

Make the cylinder clearance necessary.
